Day 1

Arrive at Venice Airport and transfer to Venice by water taxi. Check in to your comfortable hotel

in Venice city center. Lunch at your leisure.

In the afternoon, go on a small group guided visit of the city centre. We will visit La Serenissima, “the most serene,” a cityscape of stone palaces that seem to float on water and windowsills set in colourful plaster walls. Marvel at the architectural style of the Byzantine Basilica di San Marco, which was borrowed from Constantinople. It is exotic and mysterious and unlike any other Roman Catholic church. We will also take a visit to the outdoor Loggia dei Cavalli, the 500-year-old Torre dell’Orologio (Clock Tower), Chiesa di San Giorgio and see many other wonderful treasures.

In Venice, there is every form of transportation float, from water taxis and vaporetti (the public ‘bus’ ferries) to ambulance speedboats and garbage scows. Venice is a place where locals stop at the bacaro (wine bar) and munch on cicchetti (tapaslike snacks) or linger over exquisite restaurant seafood dinners. It is also a city of great art and grand old masters.

Day 2

Breakfast and departure to explore the magnificent and fascinating Venice islands.

At 9:30 am, head out for your group guided tour of the northern islands by boat. Venice shares its lagoon with three principal islands of the northern side. During this fascinating tour, you will discover the best of Murano, Burano and Torcello, their traditions and most special places, on a relaxing boat while enjoying the fascinating Venetian lagoon.

Lunch at leisure.

After lunch, you can take an optional tour to visit a typical art atelier of glass, one of the oldest workshops in Venice, located in a nice Laguna context.

Next, we’ll take you on the “Mystery of Venice tour” by night. This is a walking tour created to discover the shadowier side of Venice. Your guide will tell anecdotes and stories about palaces, stones, masks and murders. Learn about the public executions in St. Mark’s Square, the terrible asylum in San Servolo and the unsettling narrow Murderers Alley. This is your chance to see a hidden part of Venice, with picturesque views made of grand palaces, a startling spiral staircase and strange squares.

Day 3

Enjoy your breakfast and then a morning at your leisure.

Tips of what to do this morning:

The Vaporetto dell’Arte (Art Vaporetto) runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every 30 minutes, seven days a week, and makes only 10 stops. It highlights the art and culture to be found at each stop, provides a map, and encourages visitors to hop on and off. Put in your earplugs and listen to a guided tour of the Grand Canal as you travel down one of the most spectacular water ways on the planet.

We also suggest you visit the Bottega dei Mascareri, the temple of maskmaking. This art in Venice can be documented to the 13th century, when masks were used for a variety of reasons — in government, on stage, as a form of dress and as a means of disguise.

One more tip: visit the Acqua Alta Bookshop, the self-proclaimed “most beautiful bookshop in the world.” There are books in the bathtubs. Books on the walls. Out back along the patio is a staircase made of encyclopedias that leads to a view of a quiet canal.
