Day 1Welcome to Sofia!

Say Hello to beautiful Bulgaria! Your local guide will meet and greet you as well as help you transfer to your cozy hotel. Your exciting journey in Bulgaria will start with a sightseeing tour of the Bulgarian capital – Sofia. Sofia is a city with rich cultural heritage being the second oldest European capital after Athens. Visit the breathtaking Orthodox St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Built in Neo-Byzantine style, it serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria and it is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in the world, as well as one of Sofia’s symbols. Afterwards pay a visit to the medieval Boyana church, situated on the outskirts of Sofia. A total of 89 scenes with 240 human images are depicted on the walls of the church which is why it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the evening enjoy some free time to explore the center of Sofia and do some shopping.

Day 2Explore the Breathtaking Rila Monastery!

Rise and shine! After a delicious breakfast, you will depart to Rila monastery (120 km from Sofia) – the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, included in the list of UNESCO. Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria’s most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and Southern Europe. Visit the church of the monastery and see what an authentic monk room (cell) looks like. It is already time for lunch! Eat somewhere in the gorgeous area around the monastery, surrounded by the astonishing Rila mountain.

Day 3Plovdiv - the City of the Seven Hills

Today you will leave Sofia and travel to Plovdiv – the second biggest city in Bulgaria and the sixth oldest city in the world. Here, you will experience many remains from antiquity – Plovdiv has two ancient theaters, remains of the medieval walls and towers, Ottoman baths and mosques, a well-preserved old quarter from the National Revival period with beautiful houses, churches and narrow paved streets. Take part in a city tour which will show you all these amazing sites. In the afternoon you will visit the impressive Bachkovo monastery (35 km from Plovdiv), the second biggest monastery in Bulgaria. It is an important religious place for Bulgarians.

Day 4The Valley of the Roses

Hope you had a good night’s sleep because today you will travel to Kazanluk – the valley of the roses. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city, visiting the house of the roses, an unique Thracian tomb and the Shipka monastery complex dedicated to the people who fought for the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule. Spend the rest of the day exploring the Rose valley and pay a visit to an old authentic rose distilery factory where the world famous Bulgarian oil-producing roses are distilled. You will be left mesmerized by the great smell of these unique roses!

Day 5Visit the Medieval Bulgarian Capital - Veliko Turnovo

After breakfast you will continue to Veliko Turnovo – the capital of medieval Bulgaria. There you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city – visit of Tzarevets royal palace and its fortress. The castle itself is located on a hill amd offers plenty of astonishing views! In the afternoon you will take part in a half-day excursion to Arbanassi (4 km from Veliko Turnovo) – a beautiful small village with traditional Bulgarian houses and churches from Medieval times. After you have already admired the beauty of Arbannasi, you will get back to Veliko Turnovo. Why don’t you go shopping in the Samovodksa Charshia Street where you can find a diversity of art craft and handmade souvenirs? Here you can find plenty of interesting items.

Day 6Off to Tryavna!

After breakfast you will visit one of the most impressive monasteries in the area of Veliko Tarnovo – The monastery of Transfiguration. Here, you will also have the chance to visit the ancient Kilifarevo monastery. Next stop fot today is the small city of Tryavna, still bearing the spirit of the times of the Bulgarian Revival . It is located in the heart of the Balkan Mountains and offers fresh air, interesting local museums as well as nice restaurants. With its old houses, small streets, workshops and cozy cafes it is a must see destination for all foreign visitors who want to feel the authentic Bulgarian spirit. Late in the afternoon you will go back to Veliko Turnovo where you will spend the night.

Day 7Visit Troyan Monastery

Rise and Shine! On the way back to Sofia you will visit Troyan Monastery – an impressive medieval monastery, situated in the foot of the Balkans. You will explore the old church. The ornate interior and exterior of the church were painted between 1847 and 1849 by Zahari Zograph, a popular Bulgarian painter of the time, and are a definite piece of art. Have a Lunch in the area of the monastery before you proceed to Sofia. Back in Sofia you can have the evening to wander around the city or you might choose to attend a dinner in a traditional Bulgarian restaurant while enjoying an authentic folklore programme.

Day 8Goodbye, Bulgaria!

Unfortunately the end of this exciting journey through wonderful Bulgaria has come to an end. But you will have collected so many unforgettable impressions that you will surely go back home with a big smile on your face. You will be transferred to the airport in time to catch your flight.
